Irish Legends Tour (9 – 10 Days Tour)

5.0 ⭐     14 customer reviews

This tour is devoted to delving into myth and legend. Ireland is a country steeped in storytelling, with our history being closely intertwined with story and song. This nine-day trip showcases all that is magical and wonderful about the island. Beginning in Dublin, you’ll visit counties and cities including Kerry, Cork, Waterford and the Aran Islands. Venture through castles, monasteries and forts that all served as a backdrop for many well-known Irish stories, learning more about the mystery and myth behind some of the most beloved legends in Irish culture.

Embark on your tour at 2:00 PM from Dunboyne Castle Hotel. (We highly recommend booking an airport transfer in advance.) Begin your journey with a visit to Malahide Castle, originally constructed in 1185 and adorned with medieval artifacts. Join your group for a welcome drink before having dinner at your hotel.

Explore the residence of renowned racehorses at the Irish National Stud in Kildare, a hub of Irish horse racing. The stunning surroundings host some of the globe's top thoroughbreds. Stroll through the gardens before continuing to Kilkenny, where you'll have lunch at the Kilkenny Design Centre. Join a local guide for a walking tour along the Medieval Mile, a historic stretch of city streets from cathedral to castle, featuring buildings dating back to the 13th century. Enjoy independent dining and exploration in the evening.

Explore the House of Waterford Crystal, a preferred shopping partner of GIT, where expert artisans craft exquisite crystal pieces during a factory tour. Follow a local guide on a walking tour of Waterford, Ireland's oldest port city, delving into its rich history and vibrant characters. Enjoy some independent exploration. In New Ross, visit the Dunbrody Famine Ship, a reproduction of a vessel that transported famine-stricken emigrants to North America in the 1840s.

Journey south to Cobh, the final destination of the Titanic, where remnants of the liner's legacy endure. Explore the Cobh Heritage Centre, narrating centuries of Irish emigration to North America. At Blarney Castle, either embrace the famed stone's tradition or wander through the expansive parklands to admire Blarney House. Later, proceed to your hotel. (Note: On certain Tuesdays, the tour may stay in Tralee instead of Killarney on Days 4 and 5.)

Explore Moriarty's in the scenic Gap of Dunloe, a preferred shopping partner of GIT. Continue to discover the stunning Dingle Peninsula, tracing the south shore to appreciate vistas of heathery mountains, sandy beaches, and rugged headlands. Visit the South Pole Inn to delve into the story of Tom Crean, an adventurous Irish explorer who ventured into the Antarctic. Wander through the town of Dingle and relish a drink, dinner, and entertainment at Foley's Bar and Restaurant.

Cross the River Shannon by ferry and proceed to the awe-inspiring Cliffs of Moher, towering 700 feet above the tumultuous Atlantic waves. Stroll along the cliff's edge, enjoying panoramic views of Galway Bay and the Aran Islands on clear days. Witness a demonstration of expert sheepdogs collaborating with farmers to manage their herds. Indulge in homemade scones accompanied by tea. Conclude the day with a panoramic tour of Galway city.

Embark on a ferry journey across Galway Bay to reach Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. The resilient islanders preserve the Irish language and uphold traditional fishing and farming practices. Explore Dun Aengus, a massive prehistoric fortress situated on steep cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. Enjoy a laid-back lunch in Kilronan, the island's primary village, and have free time to explore before returning via ferry.

Explore Clonmacnoise, a monastic settlement established in 545 AD, situated along the River Shannon. Admire intricate high Celtic crosses adorned with biblical scenes, and stroll through the numerous church ruins and two round towers. In Athlone, savor an Irish coffee at Sean's Bar, renowned as the oldest pub in Europe, dating back to 900 AD. Unearthed ancient walls and centuries-old coins were discovered during renovations in 1970. Conclude the day with an Irish dinner and a vibrant show at Dublin's Abbey Tavern.

Spend a day exploring Dublin at your own pace with the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tour and a choice to visit one of Dublin's prominent attractions, such as the Guinness Storehouse, Teeling Distillery, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, or the GPO Museum.

Your journey concludes following breakfast.
